The Kenwood ProTalk series of walkie talkies has a two year warranty versus the one year warranty of the FreeTalk series. The Kenwood TK-3230 is the entry level model for Kenwood walkie talkies. Starting at $165, the TK-3230 is a 1.5W two channel two way radio with scan function and Manager Key Lock. It is VOX capable with a built in scrambler (Privacy Talk) and a ten call Alert tone. The LCD display has a backlight and a four digit seven segment screen. There is a three level battery indicator and busy channel lockout feature. It is made for individual, group and all call radio functions that can be set via your PC. The talk range varies with the conditions it is being used in but if you are in a building it has a seventeen floor range. Near buildings the range is almost one and a half miles while in open areas you will be able to reach five miles out. Included with the unit are a 2000maH battery pack, belt clip and rapid charger. The unit operates on UHF frequencies.
At the other end of the spectrum of higher end Kenwood walkie talkies is the Kenwood TK-3203U16P at $239. This model is rated at four watts and has considerably more range than the TK-3230. The TK-3203 Kenwood walkie talkie is PC programmable (dealer only) and has one hundred twenty one privacy codes and sixteen UHF channels. Channel scan is included and is VOX capable when used with compatible VOX headsets. There is a user lock that closes down all functions except for the PTT and volume to prevent accidental channel changes. Body is die cast for strength and is made out of durable polycarbonate. There is a wireless cloning mode, battery save and low battery alert, a time out timer and a call alert tone. Included with the radio is a rapid three hour charger, antenna, twelve hour Li ion battery pack and a clip. The unit comes with a two year manufacturer’s warranty. Range ratings for this model are more than double than the TK-3230 due to the four watt (4W) power rating.
